SAP Tennis Open Brings Big Shots Back to San Jose, Feb 8-14

Many of the world’s hottest players on the ATP World Tour will be booming serves and huge forehands at the 122nd SAP Open, returning to the HP Pavilion in San Jose, February 8-14. 

One of the 62 tournaments in 32 countries on the ATP World Tour, the SAP Open is the second oldest men’s professional tennis tournament in the U.S.  In its 122-year history, the tournament has been won by virtually every tennis superstar including Arthur Ashe, John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Michael Chang, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick.

The SAP Open has once again assembled an extraordinary field of tennis superstars featuring top American, SAP Ambassador and three-time SAP Open champion Andy Roddick; the world’s #9 player, Spaniard Fernando Verdasco; two-time Grand Slam winner and world’s

former #1 player Lleyton Hewitt; former world’s #2, German Tommy Haas; Czech Republic’s  stars Tomas Berdych and defending SAP Open champion Radek Stepanek; Japan’s #1 Kei Nishikori, and American standouts Mardy Fish, Taylor Dent and Sam Querrey. The 32-man field of singles players now includes seven of the South African Airways ATP singles top 25 players from five different countries (Roddick, Verdasco, Stepanek, Haas, Berdych, Hewitt and Querrey).*

The w­orld’s #1 ranked doubles team and Bay Area favorites Bob and Mike Bryan, internationally known as The Bryan Brothers, are back for double the action in the 16-team field of doubles players.*

The SAP Open also welcomes back former two-time SAP Open singles champion and 14-time Grand Slam Champion, Pete Sampras, who will compete at 7pm Monday, February 8 in a charity singles exhibition match against Fernando Verdasco.

Scheduled matches include:

Mon, Feb 8, 7pm: Pete Sampras vs.Fernando Verdasco Charity Singles Exhibition Match, followed by a second featured main draw match to be announced.

Tues, Feb 9, 7pm: Lleyton Hewitt first-round singles match, followed by Tommy Haas, then followed by the Bryan Brothers first-round doubles match.

Wed, Feb 10, 7pm: Andy Roddick plays his first-round singles match, followed by Fernando Verdasco’s first-round singles match.

Opponents for each of the featured tournament matches will be determined at the SAP Open draw event to be held Friday, February 5.
